Day 22 - Roses!

We decided today was going to be the day to see the Rose Gardens in Portland. It's sunny and a little cool, but it's going to rain later in the day.

Just one stop before we headed to the gardens....We're big fans of the show "Little People, Big World" and the Roloffs live nearby, soooo......We knew the farm is only open during the pumpkin season, but we headed out anyway. Got a great sign of the farm! LOL

We headed back into Portland and found the gardens. You could smell roses long before you got there. It was heavenly. Most of the roses are just beginning to bloom, but the ones in bloom are spectacular. James especially liked the fountain in one of the side gardens.

After walking the entire garden, we headed back to the RV for a nap. Naps are SO wonderful. Not a long one, but just enough to recharge our batteries.

Next stop, Larch Mountain Overlook and Vista House. The info we have says you can see seven mountains from the top so we headed out toward the Columbia River Gorge. We started up the road and kept seeing signs that the road was closed ahead because of snow. We hadn't seen any snow so we kept driving along with others. Guess what? Closed for snow....

We went back down the mountain and turned right. Just ahead was the Vista House and the viewpoint we were looking for. Inside it's very art deco. Outside was a great view of the gorge. We couldn't see the mountains as the clouds starting rolling in again. We're in a really long truck with a hitch on the back. We tried to pull into a parking space, but there was a "lady" standing in the way that kept us from pulling completely into the space and she wasn't going to move! She had to finish her smoke first! She looked at us and turned around again! About the time David decided to move, she got into her car on the passenger side and on David's side of the truck. He waited and waited for them to pull out, but they took their sweet time on it. Finally, we could park! YEA!

It was windy up there, but the view was gorgeous. You can see the complete gorge from there.

We started back to the campground, but needed some gas and groceries. Since we had Chrissy with us, some one has to stay in the truck with her. So I got David's credit card and went into WalMart. He was going to go back to the gas station while I was gone. When he got to the station he realized I had his credit card, so he used his debit card for gas. Even with gas over $4.00 a gallon, they tacked on a "transaction charge" of $.45. Sheesh!

Got the groceries and headed back for dinner. A little tv and some reading and time for bed. We're leaving tomorrow for Mt. Saint Helens. It's a day early, but it's going to rain tomorrow all day and we've seen what we wanted to here.

See ya down the road!

Jenny :)
